Fix #1: The 5 second homepage test.

Fix-it with Phil: Can your homepage pass the 5-second test?

First impressions count — especially online. In this short video, I look at a simple but powerful test you can run on your homepage to see if it’s doing its job: telling visitors clearly what you do, who you help, and what to do next — all within the first few seconds.

If that information isn’t obvious above the fold, you could be losing potential customers before they even get the chance to scroll down.

I explain how to fix it with three simple elements: a bold, benefit-led headline that says what you do; a short, supporting subheading that adds context; and a clear call-to-action, like a button or link, that tells visitors exactly what to do next.

These are small changes, but they can make a big difference — improving engagement, reducing bounce rate, and helping your website stand out from competitors who bury their message in jargon or clutter.

This fix is especially useful for small business owners, freelancers, or anyone who manages their own website and wants better results without needing a full redesign.

If you’re not sure whether your homepage passes the test, it’s worth taking a fresh look — or getting in touch and I’ll happily take a look for you.
