Fix #4: When to use PNG’s

Choosing the right image format can make a real difference to how fast your website loads and how sharp your images look — but it’s easy to get it wrong.

In this short video, I break down the three most common image formats you’ll come across: PNG, JPEG, and WebP. Each one has its strengths, and picking the wrong one can leave your site slower than it needs to be, or your images looking blurry and pixelated.

PNG is great for images that need transparency, or graphics with sharp edges like logos and icons — but the file sizes can be large, especially for photos.

JPEG is the classic choice for photographs. It compresses well, keeping file sizes down, but it doesn’t support transparency and can lose some quality if compressed too much.

WebP is the newer option, and often the best all-rounder. It typically gives you smaller file sizes than both PNG and JPEG, while still supporting transparency — which makes it a strong choice for most modern websites.

Getting this right matters more than people think. Large, poorly chosen image files are one of the most common reasons a website feels sluggish, and page speed has a direct impact on both user experience and Google rankings.

In under 60 seconds, this video gives you a clear, practical answer so you can stop guessing and start using the right format for the job — whether that’s a hero banner, a product photo, or a small icon in your footer.

If you’re not sure which format your website is currently using, or you suspect your images might be slowing things down, it’s worth taking a look — or getting in touch and I’ll happily take a look for you.
