Fix #7: Lots of traffic but few enquiries?
Why your call-to-action buttons might be letting you down
Getting traffic to your website is only half the battle. If visitors are arriving but not getting in touch, the problem is usually somewhere on the page itself — and one of the most common culprits is a weak or confusing call-to-action button. If this sounds familiar, take a look at how I help businesses with website lead generation — it covers exactly this kind of conversion problem.
In this episode of Fix-it with Phil, I share four simple changes that can make your buttons work harder and turn more visitors into enquiries.
Write clearer button copy
Buttons that say “Submit” or “Click here” tell visitors nothing. They work better when the copy tells people exactly what happens next — “Get a free quote”, “Book a call”, or “Send me a message” are all more likely to get a click than a vague instruction.
Limit distractions
If your page has too many competing buttons, links, and options, visitors don’t know where to look. The more choices you give someone, the less likely they are to make any choice at all. Make it obvious what you want them to do next — and remove anything that pulls them in a different direction.
Use colour effectively
Your main call-to-action button should stand out from everything else on the page. If it’s the same colour as your background, your header, and three other elements, it’s not going to draw the eye. A contrasting colour that’s used consistently for your primary action helps visitors find it quickly.
Add urgency
People put things off. A small amount of urgency — “Get in touch today”, “Limited availability this month” — can be enough to nudge someone from thinking about it to actually doing it.
